Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

How long do tickets stay on my record?

In most states, all minor traffic convictions and accidents remain on your driving record for three years. Alcohol related major violations remain on your driving record up to ten years. Points for traffic convictions and chargeable accidents are added and removed at the renewal of your policy. There is no change to the policy premium during your policy period for changes to your driving record.

Why should I buy from an independent insurance agent?

As an independent insurance agent, PoliSeek represents many different insurance carriers to meet your needs. We shop from our extensive panel of insurance companies to locate the best combination of price and coverage available to you. Then we continue to stand by you, periodically shopping during renewal cycles to make sure that your insurance coverage keeps pace with your changing life.

How does PoliSeek have great rates for all types of drivers?

When will I receive my insurance policy and first bill?

Typically, you will receive your policy within 4 to 6 weeks. The due date of your first installment will vary depending on the pay plan you have chosen.
For most "monthly pay" plans, the due date is 30 days after inception. Review all of the material you receive carefully; your first installment bill may be included with your copy of your policy, or it may be mailed separately.
Ask your sales representative or customer service representative for details of your specific pay plan.

What should I do if I have received a notice of cancellation?

It is urgent that you call our client service center at 800-521-2942 at your first opportunity. Coverage Questions

What is Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage?

Even though liability coverage is advisable and often required, there are many people who do not buy insurance. If an uninsured motorist causes an accident you may not be able to recover any damages that you sustain. If you purchase Uninsured Motorist Coverage, your auto insurance company may pay you for the bodily injury caused by an uninsured motorist. It will cover you, any family member, and anyone occupying a covered automobile. The limits for this coverage are usually the same limits that you selected for liability, although you can choose lower limits. There are also times when a person who causes an accident has liability insurance but your damages exceed the limits of that person's coverage. In some states Underinsured Motorist Coverage is included in your Uninsured Motorist Coverage. In other states, you can purchase underinsured motorist insurance, which covers your excess losses up to the limit set forth in the policy.
If you have any questions or need help deciding what coverage and limits suit your needs, you should contact your PoliSeek agent for help.

How much Liability Coverage do I need?

Most state laws require that you carry a minimum amount of liability insurance, which pays for the injuries or damages you cause to someone else. While some people need only the minimum level of protection, others have assets that they need to protect. If you are unsure about how much liability insurance you need, consult a PoliSeek insurance professional. We can tailor a program to provide the right amount of protection for you and your family.
Specialty RV Questions

Does specialty RV insurance cost more than standard auto insurance?

Amazingly, specialty RV insurance is comparable and often less than auto insurance - and you get a whole lot more coverage for your money. How is this possible? RVers are generally more mature, safer drivers than the general auto-driving population. RVs are used less for commuting and quick trips - times when many auto accidents occur. RVs are a much greater investment than cars, so drivers tend to be more careful on the road. All of these factors add up to fewer claims for RV insurance companies, which mean lower premium costs for you. Auto insurance companies clearly experience more frequent losses than specialty RV insurance providers and, therefore, must charge a higher premium across the board to both auto and RV owners.

What does a specialty RV policy cover that an auto policy doesn't?

Since the specialty RV policy is designed exclusively for the RVer, it makes sense that it includes a whole list of coverages not provided by a policy developed to accommodate the average auto owner. Total Loss Replacement is an extremely important specialty RV coverage that provides the RV owner with a new RV of like make and model in the event of total loss in the first five vehicle model years. This means depreciation is not added into the settlement costs and the RVer drives away with a new RV. Other features include Agreed Value for classic motorhomes and bus conversions; Disappearing Deductibles, which reduce your deductibles 25% for each year you remain claim-free; Emergency Expense Coverage; Unlimited Towing and Roadside Assistance; and coverage that follows you into Canada and Mexico.

What are disappearing deductibles?

A deductible is simply the amount of your claim that you agree to pay. For example, suppose you have an accident that causes $10,000 of damage to your RV. If your policy has a collision deductible of $500, then you pay the first $500 of the claim, and the insurance company pays the remaining $9,500.
Two types of deductibles in your policy are set at your discretion: comprehensive and collision. Collision covers your vehicle for damage occurring as a result of colliding with another vehicle or object. Comprehensive covers damage from something other than a collision, which is why it's often referred to as "Other Than Collision."
With the disappearing deductibles feature, your deductibles are discounted 25% for every year that you are claim-free. After four claim-free years, your deductible would be discounted 100%, so you'd pay no deductible on your next claim. After the claim is settled, your deductibles are reset to your selected level.

Does my homeowner policy cover my RV's contents?

Your homeowner policy covers some of your personal contents but most often excludes or severely limits coverage for off-premise property, like items in storage, and can exclude coverage for certain types of losses, like collision. Our specialty RV policies pick up where your homeowner policy coverage ends and replaces stolen or damaged goods at full replacement value.

Is my RV awning covered?

Most PoliSeek RV Insurance policies offer coverage for add-ons and tow dollies. Add-ons include items such as awnings, antennas, cabanas, external racks, and satellite dishes. Built-in appliances are also covered subject to policy guidelines.

Who can drive my RV and be covered on my policy?

It is okay to loan your RV to a friend or relative occasionally as long as no money is exchanged. However, some insurance companies do require the borrower be added to the policy if the vehicle is loaned more than a few times a year. Remember, although another person may be temporarily covered by your policy, any losses that occur while another person is driving your vehicle are still your responsibility. The insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver.

Do you offer coverage for international visitors to the United States?

Yes, PoliSeek RV Insurance can provide insurance for visitors RVing in the United States as long as the RV is registered and garaged in the United States.

Do you provide insurance for rented RVs?

No, we do not offer RV insurance policies for rented RVs.

Do I need special insurance documents to travel in Canada or Mexico?

Traveling in Canada:
If you travel from the U.S. into Canada, your coverage remains intact and your regular U.S. ID card serves as proof of your insurance coverage. Once in Canada, if you travel between provinces, you may be asked to show proof that you have insurance valid in Canada, which requires a Canadian ID card. Your towing and roadside assistance coverage extends to anywhere in Canada on a reimbursement basis.
If you need a Canadian ID card, it's easy to request an ID card online or contact us at 800-521-2942 weekdays from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST."
Traveling in Mexico:
If you travel into Mexico you must purchase Mexican liability from a Mexican-licensed insurance company before your trip, or you can purchase liability at the border of Mexico.
If you wish to also carry comprehensive and collision insurance on your vehicle while in Mexico, call us at 800-449-8943. We can easily and quickly add this inexpensive endorsement to your current specialty RV policy if you don't already have it. Please be aware that you must keep your Mexican liability insurance in effect during your entire visit to Mexico for your Mexican comprehensive and collision coverage with PoliSeek RV Insurance to remain in force. Towing and roadside assistance is covered on a reimbursement basis while in Mexico.

Do you insure RVs used for business?

Yes, PoliSeek RV Insurance can offer RV insurance to those RVers using their vehicle to produce income. When you request an RV quote you will be asked whether you use your RV for business and if so, to briefly describe your business. This information will help us provide you with a custom quote for your unique situation.

Do you offer a storage policy if my RV isn't used year-round?

Yes, we do. And, with some of our other carriers, the policy premium is based on seasonal usage, since the majority of RVers do not use their RVs year-round. For full-time RVers we charge additional premium to account for the additional usage.

Will my lienholder be notified that I have insurance coverage for my RV?

Your lienholder will receive notice regarding your insurance coverage in the following situations:
  • When your policy renews each year
  • When you switch the vehicle on your policy
  • When you purchase an additional vehicle and add it to your policy
  • When you cancel your policy
  • When your policy is cancelled by the insurance company
If your lienholder needs information about your policy or confirmation of coverage, contact us at 800-521-2942 weekdays from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST.

Will my claim be denied if I don't have a supplemental braking system for my towed vehicle?

No. Of course, RV experts recommend supplemental braking systems for towed vehicles because this can help prevent an accident. Our carriers do not, however, deny claims based purely on that factor.
